Hi Everybody!

In the last few years preceding my recent retirement I have been mulling over a plan for a serious motorcycle trip. I have ridden for over 40 years and have gained much satisfaction by celebrating the end of a stressful school year on a weeklong, solo motorbike trip through B.C. or the American Northwest. I reckon that after 36 years of teaching I should celebrate with something on a commensurate scale. So after much thinking, planning, dreaming and a new rear tire, I am on the eve on the Bruiser Tour 2012. As soon as the weather starts looking decent and springlike, and after celebrating my grand daughter's first birthday, I am going to burn a line of blue smoke in a southerly direction. Likely on or about March 26.

Young bikers have a destination. Old bikers just have a vague direction in mind. My intention is to take about 2 months to follow where the good roads lead, turning around in the vicinity of New Orleans. But we'll see. A road trip, like life, is more about journey than destination.

The Bruiser, incidently, is my trusty steed. An 800 cc Suzuki Boulevard C50T. Black, spirited, and as dependable as an old hound dog. We have logged a lot of miles over our years together, and we have a pact to take care of each other.

Anyway, keep us bookmarked and check on us from time to time. The blog is not particularly interactive, but I welcome emails at this address should you ever get a notion.
I'm still in the planning stages. Maps of the Western U.S. from Washington to Louisiana are spread out on the floor but my packing is limited to long lists of things to consider bringing. I have to be a minimalist!  Planning to leave on or about March 26, depending on the weather. It snowed in San Diego last week!

OK. Back to packing
